My husband and I are musicians. And we’re parents. When we are onstage, we do our best to really be ON stage. But all our “backstage” experiences with our son (our little frog) deeply affect who we are as people, thus musicians. Recent insights:
Lately I have felt overwhelmed: balancing administrative and creative work demands, kid duties, household maintenance, and staying up-to-date on correspondence/calls... It has all felt a bit much.
I hadn't been making time for exercise. And I had been falling into a reactive cycle, doing things that had to be done immediately, responding to miscellaneous requests which kept my focus jumping crazily from one topic to another.
So the LAST thing I had time to do was to clean the basement... but one day last week (shortly after a friend had sent along a Spanish talisman for "productivity") I just started collapsing empty boxes, and packing up bags of rarely worn clothes. Each day I would edit a closet, clear out a drawer.
Soon I had 10 bags of nice things to donate. I also had a collection of small furniture items I no longer needed, which I announced on Craig's List (pick up today only!). Later that day, all my retired stuff had new homes.
I have a new lease on life!!
Now, did this unlikely 3-inch tall talisman inspire this wave of productivity and accompanying sense of prosperity and gratitude for the things I do have? I would ask him. But I'm too engaged with enjoying my clean and clear space (in my home and my mind)...
